I would say possibly you are missing out on something.because if the other functions particularly photocopying are working then this should work.as in if the photocopying function works then the scanner is ok cause basically in photocopying the machine scans then prints. Hey I have the exact same printer and here's what's going on: Windows already found and installed the drivers in order for the device to work (you said it yourself that the printer works) but I can't install the HP software which isn't compatible with Win 7. The thing is that you don't really need it, for scanning just use the 'Windows Fax and Scan' application found in Start-All Programs. It's very easy to use and convenient.
