This is a great inkjet printer for the price. Setup was quick and painless.

I'm pretty much giving HP five stars just because setup was so easy. I recently had to setup a Brother laser printer, which took me hours. I completed the setup for this HP printer in less than 18 minutes, and I didn't even use the enclosed CD because my MacBook Air doesn't have a CD drive. If you're using a PC with a CD drive you could probably set it up even faster.

The print quality is pretty good. Black and white copies aren't near as crisp as a laser printer, but that's to be expected.

Color copies seem a tad bit dark to me, but nothing to complain about. The printer uses two ink cartridges, one BW and one tri-color. You should expect to get less than 200 pages before you have. Tip: don't install the ink cartridges before the touchscreen instructions tell you to or else it will say that your print carriage is jammed. The instructions are clear and if you don't understand, you have the option of watching an animated demonstration. It automatically aligns and calibrates the cartridges for you. I made all of our Christmas cards with it, faxing is easy, you can copy in both bw and color, the scanner is fantastic! If you have heavy duty faxing or copy jobs then this would probably not be the all-in-one for you. This is the perfect machine for the home office for occassional faxing, and smaller copy jobs either from the glass, feed tray or the computer.

I feel the ink cartridges last a long time. The only thing I am not all that happy with is the photo copying. It doesn't quite get the colors right, particularly when copying from another photo.

It's fine for scanning photos into the computer. I just wouldn't use the photos it copies in a scrapbook or for a picture frame. I got tired of paying for ink cartridges for my injet printer, and also of waiting for it to slowly print my material, so I decided to replace it with a laser printer.

Since I don't print pictures, a black and white printer is sufficient. I couldn't be happier with the HP 1020. It's very compact (actually smaller than my Epson), unbelievably fast (though it takes a little while to get going), and the result is crystal clear. One important note, though: I'm a Mac user and this printer isn't intended to support Macs. But I learned from other reviewers on this site that you can solve this problem by downloading the printer driver from HP for the HP Laserjet 1022, which does support Macs. I did this, but the other reviewers left out an important bit of information: the directions that come with the printer say to wait. I bought this printer to replace the only printer I've ever owned - my HP Laserjet 4L, which I bought 15 years ago next month.
