Hp Tuners File Repository
I have HP Tuners but am a newb at tuning in general. I have become fairly proficient with the program itself but would like to see what some of these mail-order tuners are doing when you send them your ECM and pay to have them programmed and sent back. I know generally what they do but want to see for myself to learn. Does anyone know who of the mail order places uses HP Tuners and if any of them will let me just email my stock file to them and pay a small fee to have a modified one sent back? I generally agree. I question how much one can really do without a dyno and suspect most of what is being done is turning off DTC's. BUT I think there are things some tuners do that others will not mess with.
I know enough to see those things in the file when they are there and tell, for the most part, when things are beyond a reasonable range of change. (HP Tuners has a feature where you can compare two files side by side and it will point out all the differences. So if I get a file and find that the fuel trim is completely crazy as compared to my stock file I know its probably not a smart move.) There are also tuners that I would trust and not trust. Jim's has done enough rigs of people I know that I would trust him. Jim performance removes VATS and some emissions stuff and changes the shift points (even if you tell him you are going to run a non-electronic Full manual trans) He does not remove/adjust abuse mode. So it will artificially rev-limit at 5k, if you aren't running an electronic trans.

He does not adjust the Power Enrichment (PE) delay (some stock truck motors have a 60sec delay on entering power enrichment. He does not remove torque managment (I beleive this requires input from the trans to enable) Oh and if you convert an LQ9 to a cable throttle body he just gives you an LQ4 tune, with the above mods instead of taking the time to transfer the fuel and spark tables over.
To be honest you can safely get a bit out of ditching the PE delay and dropping the PE threshold from 80-90% Throttle down to say 60-70%.
